Luogo Comune

Is our artist line-up for Tangi Street Art Festival 2025

Luogo Comune is an award-winning illustrator and mural artist based between Bologna and Ravenna. His practice moves seamlessly between editorial illustration and monumental murals, bringing to life a graphic, symbol-rich visual language that feels both timeless and contemporary. Deeply rooted in graffiti culture, his work often reflects the relationship between humans and nature, weaving local traditions and social issues into bold, site-specific narratives.

Using flat color palettes and striking, minimal forms, Luogo Comune transforms urban walls into spaces of contemplation, dialogue, and identity. Over the years, he has painted across Europe and North Africa, leaving behind large-scale murals that resonate with community and place. His work balances aesthetic impact with cultural storytelling, creating environments that invite reflection and engagement.

For the Tangi Street Art Festival 2025, Luogo Comune’s participation is proudly supported by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, highlighting his commitment to cultural exchange and collaborative public art. His murals continue to explore the connection between society, environment, and tradition, establishing him as a distinctive voice in contemporary European muralism.

Luogo Comune is one of the invited artists for the third edition of Tangi Street Art Festival, taking place from 11–17 May 2025. The festival’s theme draws inspiration from the Balinese philosophy Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony across three essential relationships: spirituality, humanity, and nature.

This framework allows artists to engage with local culture while exploring universal values. Parahyangan (the divine) celebrates spiritual expression through art; Pawongan (humanity) encourages collaboration and community connection; and Palemahan (nature) underscores environmental awareness and sustainability.

Luogo Comune’s participation provides an opportunity to transform public walls into visual narratives that reflect both local identity and his unique artistic vision. Through his murals, the festival becomes a platform where contemporary illustration meets monumental public art, enabling dialogue between communities, traditions, and artistic perspectives.

Luogo Comune’s work is known for capturing elements from his surroundings and transforming them into symbolic, graphic compositions. For Tangi Street Art Festival 2025, he faced the challenge of Bali’s hot sun while working on the largest wall among all the participating artists, yet managed to complete it on schedule.

Upon arriving in Desa Guwang, he joined Joan Aguiló to visit a local woodcarver, exploring the village’s traditional craft. Observing the tools, techniques, and intricate carvings, he absorbed the essence of Guwang’s artistic heritage. These observations directly informed his mural, “Keseimbangan” (“Balance”), which centers on the ancient tradition of wooden masks in the village. At the heart of the composition, a Barong mask and crafting tools symbolize Guwang’s cultural identity.

The mural juxtaposes flourishing Indonesian nature with the meticulous labor of the craftsmen, creating a dynamic visual harmony. Using rich, colorful flat symbolism, Luogo Comune conveys the village’s stories through both the physical environment and his inner reflections. Each detail embodies a dialogue between local tradition, human activity, and natural beauty, offering viewers a narrative that celebrates balance, culture, and the artist’s own interpretation of Guwang village.
