Is our artist line-up for Tangi Intervention Program 2026
Rubso is a tattoo artist, illustrator, painter, and graffiti writer from Yogyakarta, now based in Bali. He has been active on the streets since 2008.
Rubso was invited to contribute to the Tangi Intervention Program, part of the ongoing Tangi Street Art Festival initiative to integrate art throughout Bali year-round. The program encourages artists to transform public spaces into living canvases, enriching the urban environment beyond the main festival.
For this mural, he presents his visual interpretation of the historical conflict between the Kingdom of Buleleng in North Bali and the Kingdom of Badung in South Bali. Both were powerful kingdoms with strong influence over territory, trade routes, and political alliances. Tensions between them led to battles in several areas, including the region now known as Peguyangan.
According to historical accounts he explored, these events became part of the layered stories behind the origin of the name Peguyangan. The area holds memories of movement, struggle, and shifting power, which he translates into visual form through symbolic figures and composition.
He also adds the typography “Rahayu,” a word he sees as one of the best expressions of prayer. It is often spoken as a sincere wish for safety, peace, and well being within friendship and social life.
