Wild Drawing
Is our artist line-up for Tangi Instervention Program 2024
WD (Wild Drawing) was born and raised in Bali, Indonesia, and studied both Fine Arts and Applied Arts. He began painting on the streets in 2000 and has since spent much of his time creating large-scale murals, while continuing to work in his studio. His work has been featured in festivals and exhibitions across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, and appears in numerous publications on street art. WD’s unique style blends his East-West sociocultural background with a vivid, recognizable visual language. He focuses on large murals executed with acrylic and roller techniques, always interacting with the surrounding environment to create harmony between artwork and space. His work—particularly 3D anamorphic pieces with optical illusions—is inspired by comics, graphic novels, fantasy art, social phenomena, lifestyle, art, and nature. Street art gives him a unique freedom of expression, accessible to all regardless of social, economic, or cultural barriers. Through his work, he addresses public space and societal issues, balancing the transient nature of street art with meaningful narratives. WD currently lives in Athens, Greece, while continuing to work internationally.
Wild Drawing was one of the invited Balinese artists for Tangi Street Art Festival 2024. Held from May 13–19 in Desa Pancasari, Buleleng, the festival shifted focus from Bali’s coastal and urban highlights to its northern mountain region. With cooler climates, fertile green landscapes, and a calm lakeside setting, Pancasari offered an inspiring backdrop for artists and community alike. The 2024 edition carried the theme “SEKALA,” a Balinese concept referring to the tangible, visible world. Through murals, performances, and workshops, the theme encouraged artists to explore authentic connections—between tradition and innovation, locals and internationals, and individual creativity and collective experience. Wild Drawing’s participation added depth to the festival, merging his large-scale, visually dynamic approach with the natural and cultural elements of the region, creating works that resonate with both local and visiting audiences.

Wild Drawing’s mural for Tangi 2024 was inspired by the specific location of his wall in Desa Pancasari. Upon receiving photos from the festival team, WD immediately envisioned a female figure interacting with nature, reaching out to take fruit from the hands of the earth. This imagery reflects his philosophy of harmony between humans and the environment. WD also drew inspiration from a quote by Mahatma Gandhi: “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed.” Through this concept, his work conveys a balance between human desire and nature’s generosity, highlighting sustainability and responsibility. His process was guided by observation, imagination, and respect for the local surroundings. By combining elements of his signature 3D and optical illusion techniques with organic, symbolic imagery, WD created a piece that visually engages viewers while prompting reflection on our relationship with the natural world. The mural seamlessly integrates with the green, mountainous setting of Pancasari, becoming part of the landscape itself. WD’s work not only celebrates artistic expression but also reinforces the festival’s “SEKALA” theme, emphasizing tangible connections between art, culture, and the environment.
